Introduction for Student Edition
Like the Pilgrims in the early days of our country, students are embarking on an adventure--a drive through American history. As they cruise along this journey, they will meet many historical figures who paved the way to freedom. Looking in the rearview mirror, students will read about the experiences of their youth. They will pass by historical markers highlighting major contributions made by these men and women and the tolls they willingly paid along the way. During their travels, students will have opportunities to examine the personal character of eight key players in this historical drama. At roadside stops, they will ponder their own quest, and will also dodge their own roadblocks. As students follow the map, they will enter school zones designed to pace their journey to help them avoid dead end streets. Their route will lead them down highways where they can investigate the worldview of our nation's Founders and examine their own views as they map out the route they will travel. Students will be encouraged to put the key in the ignition, fasten their seat belt, and get ready to Drive Thru History America!
